Tecil Chemicals & Hydro Power was incorporated and listed with the name ‘The Travancore Electro-Chemical Industries Limited’ on April 04, 1945 in the State of Kerala under the Companies Act, 1956 as Public Limited Company. On December 28, 1994, the name of the company i.e ‘he Travancore Electro-Chemical Industries Limited’ was changed to ‘Tecil Chemicals And Hydro Power Limited’ pursuant to the Section 21 of the Companies Act, 1956 with the duly passed necessary resolution and obtained Fresh Certificate of Incorporation Consequently on Change of the Name under Section 23(1) of the Companies Act, 1956.  The company was listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, Madras Stock Exchange, Delhi Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange.

Tecil Chemicals & Hydro Power is the premier manufacturer of Calcium Carbide in India and Calcium Carbide is mainly used for manufacture of dissolved Acetylene, Trichloro Ethylene, Chemical Synthesis, Desulphurisation Compound and Acetylene Black. The company is also the largest merchant manufacturer of Acetylene Black which finds application with dry cell battery manufacturers. They have also diversified into Ferro Silicon.
