Kothari Fermentation & Biochem was incorporated on December 26, 1990 and has been engaged in the manufacture of yeast and its derivatives.

The company is located in the Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh. Yeast and its derivatives find application in the manufacture of bread, brewing of beer, and as a source of vitamin in food products and pharmaceuticals. Distiller yeast improvers manufactured by the company are used by distilleries manufacturing alcohol using cane molasses and non-molasses as raw material.

Yeast extract paste and powder are sold as premium products to the food, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries under the brand name Sunrise. The company had made a reference to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in September 2002 and was declared a sick industrial company on November 9, 2005. In view of the rehabilitation scheme (package), sanctioned by BIFR in August 2008, the company is restructuring its equity capital base.
