Gujarat Natural Resources, earlier known as Lesha Energy Resources was incorporated on August 23, 1991 as Lesha Steels under the Companies Act, 1956 in the state of Gujarat. The company set up a unit to manufacture different grades of low carbon alloy steels.  The company has obtained the certificate of commencement of business on June 24, 1992 from the office of the Registrar of Companies, Gujarat. The company is promoted by A C Shah, a technocrat and entrepreneur who has a rich experience in industry, business & finance and Dipak C Shah, a businessman engaged in trading and consultancy business.

In 2010 the Company changed the name from "Lesha Energy Resources Ltd" to "Gujarat Natural Resources Ltd".
