Milestones:

1979: 

  • The company was founded by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy.

1983: 

  • The first Apollo hospital was opened in Chennai.

1988: 

  • The company expanded into Hyderabad.

1994: 

  • Apollo Specialty Hospital, a cancer treatment hospital was opened in Chennai.

1995: 

  • Completed over 11000 master health checks in a single year.

1996: 

  • Indraprastha Apollo Hospital was opened in New Delhi.

1997: 

  • Apollo Specialty Hospital Madurai was established.

1999: 

  • Apollo Heart and Kidney Hospitals inaugurated.

2000: 

  • The company’s first telemedicine facility, Apollo Aragonda, was started.

2001-04: 

  • Apollo Gleneagles hospital was opened in Kolkata, followed by the FirstMed Hospital in Chennai, and hospitals in Mysore, Ahmedabad, Kakinada and Bilaspur. During this period, Apollo Retail Pharmacy was also launched.

2005-10: 

  • The company started the Imperial Hospital in Bangalore, the Apollo Children‘s Hospital in Chennai, two Apollo REACH hospitals in Kakinada and Karimnagar and other hospitals in Bhubaneshwar, the Republic of Mauritius, Lavasa and Dhaka, Bangladesh.

2007: 

  • The company formed a joint venture with Munich Health Holding AG, a subsidiary of Munich Re, and Apollo Energy Limited, to enter into the health insurance business.

2009: 

  • The company launched the G4 CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System.

2010: 

  • The company launched its 50th hospital with 150 beds in Secunderabad. During this period, the Apollo Cosmetics Clinics were also launched.

2011-12:

  • Completed 1,000 tissue transfer surgeries in April, 2011.
  • Apollo Gleneagles Hospital Kolkata performed its first Cadaver Renal Transplant successfully and became the first private sector hospital in the eastern region to accomplish this milestone.
  • The Awake Craniotomy surgery was performed for the first time at Apollo Gleneagles Hospital Kolkata to successfully treat a 32-year-old patient.
  • For the first time in Eastern India, Medication Refractory Trigeminal Neuralgia was treated successfully with Stereotactic Radiosurgery using Brainlab and Novalis TX on a 73-year-old male patient.
  • Apollo, Bhubaneswar carried out two level Cervical Disc replacements for the first time in Odisha and eastern part of India; the patient, aged 54 years, had an excellent Neurological recovery and was discharged in 3 days.
  • Apollo Transplant Institutes became the busiest solid organ transplant programme, having conducted 929 liver, kidney and heart transplants.
  • Apollo Centre for liver disease and transplantation completed 100 liver transplantations in three years with a 90% success rate.
  • Launched the Apollo Institute of Robotic Surgery in Chennai in November 2011 and the Institute successfully completed 55 surgeries in its first six months.
  • Introduced the MRI-guided High Intensity Fibroid Ultrasound (HIFU) for surgery free treatment of uterine fibroids at hospitals in Delhi and Hyderabad.
  • Conducted first ever End luminal Bariatric Operation in South Asia at Chennai in January, 2012.

2013-14:

  • India reports first ever surgical separation of Pygopagus twins.
  • Liver transplant on a five month old.
  • Advanced therapy for cancer.

2014-15:

  • Apollo Chennai performed a successful key-hole surgery on an unstable angina patient in 20 minutes.
  • Apollo Ahmedabad successfully performed ‘Redo Bentall Surgery’ (known to have high mortality rate) on a foreign patient.
  • Apollo Children’s Hospital saved the lives of three infants, barely three-months old, with a rare congenital heart condition called Anomalous Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery.

2015-16:

  • Apollo Munich Health Insurance came into existence through an alliance between the Apollo Hospitals Group and Munich Health, which is one of the leading insurance companies globally.

2016-17:

  • Apollo Hospitals Group also signed an agreement with Chinese infrastructure firm Hainan Ecological Smart City Group (HESCG) to jointly develop an integrated modern healthcare services facility and systems in Hainan province.
  • Apollo Health & Lifestyle was introduced with an intention to take healthcare services purely from a ‘hospital’ setting closer to the home within the neighborhood and with a goal to serve the community through multiple touch points.

2017-18:

  • The company crossed the milestone of 10,000 beds capacity across its pan India network.
  • Apollo Hospitals partnered with RMS Regrow to launch the first of its kind innovative cell therapy treatment for Orthopaedic Patients in India.
  • Apollo Hospitals partnered with Godrej HIT; to launch India’s first online Platelet Donor Community for patients suffering from dengue.
  • Apollo Hospitals signed an agreement with IBM for deployment of the IBM Watson tools for Oncology and Genomics.

2018-19:

  • For the first time in India, successful laparoscopic removal of a bullet was done from the abdomen of a 3- year old child.
  • Apollo Hospitals Performs Asia’s First Simultaneous Pancreas-Kidney Transplant.
  • Apollo Hospitals Chennai successfully performed the India’s first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in a Bicuspid Aortic Valve with the new generation Evolut PRO valve on April 22, 2018.
  • Announced the use of OrganOx Metra for liver transplant, for the first time in Tamil Nadu. 
  • Apollo Hospitals, Chennai became the first center in India to successfully perform a Transfemoral Pulmonary Valve Implantation.

2019-20:

  • The launch of the Proton Centre in Chennai, a one of a kind in South Asia, is a milestone - evidence of market leadership in cancer treatment and patient care.
  • Apollo Hospitals achieved the 100 Robotic Myomectomies milestone, the largest in South Asia.
  • Apollo Hospitals, Chennai hits new Cardiac Surgery milestone by successfully completing over 50,000 heart surgeries.

2020-21:

  • The company launched the first dedicated Robot-Assisted Cardiac Surgery Unit in India, a milestone in the history of cardiovascular surgery in the country.
  • Completed over 1 million health checks across India in a single year.

2023-24:

  • Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, achieved a milestone by performing a scarless robotic head-and-neck surgery on a 49-year-old woman, removing an 8cm tumor from her salivary gland without leaving a scar.
  • Apollo Hospitals has introduced an innovative Excimer laser technology to remove the infected parts of a pacemaker from patients' hearts swiftly.
  • Apollomedics Super Specialty Hospital, Lucknow, achieved a significant medical milestone by performing the state’s first Renal Denervation Therapy (RDN) and the country’s fifth for a 60-year-old patient with resistant hypertension.
  • Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC) in Chennai achieves a milestone by successfully treating a rare skull base tumor in a 30-year-old Bahraini athlete.
  • Apollo Hospitals unveiled the ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery Platform, a revolutionary advancement in brain tumor treatment, marking a significant milestone as the first in South Asia to introduce this ground-breaking technology.

2024-25:
