BHARTI AIRTEL MOVES IN 2024:

  • In Jan 2024, Bharti Airtel prepaid $1 billion to partially settle its 2015 spectrum dues, as stated in an exchange filing by the second-largest telecom services operator in India by subscribers. The payment incurred an interest rate of 10%.

  • In Jan 2024, The board of Airtel has given approval for the IPO of Bharti Hexacom, and the government plans to sell a 20% stake through an Offer for Sale (OFS).

  • As per the report on February 5, 2024, Bharti Airtel's Q3 results show a 54% year-on-year profit surge to Rs 2,442 crore, but it falls short of estimates. The Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) rose to Rs 208 in Q3FY24 from Rs 193 in Q3FY23. The company recorded quarterly consolidated revenues of Rs 37,900 crore for the October-December quarter, a 6% increase compared to the previous year, partly affected by currency devaluations in Africa. 

  • CEO Anubrata Biswas stated in February 2024 that Airtel Payments Bank has experienced a notable increase in the volume of new customers applying online to open bank accounts and availing services such as FASTag in recent days.

  • As of Feb 2024, Airtel Africa reported a significant 92% year-on-year decline in net profit for Q3FY24, reaching $15 million, attributed to forex challenges and increased finance costs. The nine-month profit after tax was $2 million, impacted by a $330 million exceptional loss due to the devaluation of the Nigerian naira and the Malawian kwacha.

  • A share buy-back program of up to $100 million will be launched by Airtel Africa in early March 2024.

2016

Orange SA and Bharti Airtel agreed to sell Airtel's operations in Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone to Orange. Airtel Bangladesh merged into Robi as a product brand under Robi Axiata, where Robi Axiata Limited holds the Airtel brand license. Robi is a joint venture between Axiata Group, Bharti Airtel, and NTT Docomo, with Axiata having a 68.7% controlling stake, Bharti holding 25%, and the remaining 6.3% owned by NTT Docomo. India's TRAI recommended a Rs. 3,050 crore penalty on Vodafone, Bharti Airtel, and Idea Cellular for denying interconnection to Reliance Jio Infocomm, equivalent to Rs. 44 billion or US$550 million in 2023.

2017

Airtel secured ownership of Augere Wireless, Telenor India, Tikona 4G spectrum, and Tigo Rewards.

On December 16, 2017, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) suspended the license for eKYC of Aadhaar for both Bharti Airtel and Airtel Payments Bank Limited. This action was taken in response to customer complaints of accounts being opened without consent, with some customers receiving LPG subsidies in their Airtel Payments Bank accounts.

2018

Airtel served as a sponsor for the 2018–21 FIA GT World Cup.

2019

Bharti Airtel acquired Tata Docomo. Airtel offers Telemedia services in 99 cities, boasting 2.342 million broadband subscribers as of June 30, 2019. In the Digital Television sector, it provides Direct-to-Home (DTH) TV services under the brand Airtel digital TV, with approximately 16.027 million customers by June 2019.
