Tanla Platforms Limited was founded in 1999 in Hyderabad by Uday Kumar Reddy, with a core focus on mobile messaging solutions. In 2001, it scored a breakthrough by launching the country's first A2P SMSC (Application-to-Person Short Message Service Centre), entering enterprise-level communication services. The next year, it launched an optimum routing system to improve the delivery of messages.

Tanla diversified its product line in 2003 by creating an SS7-based voice mail solution. Through acquisitions of three firms—Techserv Tele Services, Smartnet Communication Systems, and Mobizar Limited—during 2005, it expanded its technology base. Tanla submitted a follow-on public offer in 2006 and got listed on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) in the year 2007.

In 2008, Tanla ventured into the mobile payments space by acquiring Openbit Oy, a Finnish company. The year also witnessed a stock split to enhance share liquidity. In 2009, it partnered with Nokia to provide mobile billing and license management services. Looking ahead, 2010 was a year of technological advancements, with a patent being approved for automated meter reading and services such as a music recommendation engine and 3G video calling with MTNL.

Tanla launched India's first 3G-based video telemedicine platform in 2011 and rolled out T-pay, a mobile payment solution, in the same year. In 2012, it partnered with Research in Motion (BlackBerry) for digital gifting services. In 2013, Tanla forayed into the entertainment sector by launching a social gaming platform in association with EA (Electronic Arts).

In 2014, the firm launched rapid and scalable A2P messaging with a Vodafone partnership, followed by the launch of a cloud-based voice offering in 2017. 2018 was a turning point year when Tanla purchased Karix Mobile (formerly mGage India), giving it an extensive push in enterprise communication and omnichannel messaging.

In 2019, Tanla launched Trubloq, the globe's first blockchain-based commercial messaging platform to fight spam and promote the authenticity of messages. It also acquired Gamooga in 2019 and surpassed 13 billion messages on its platform. Tanla had launched one of the biggest blockchain deployment projects with a few Indian telecom companies by 2020 and expanded its global reach with a big telecom tie-up in Dubai.

In 2021, the company partnered with Microsoft Azure to develop Wisely, a secure cloud-based real-time communication platform with support for compliance, encryption, and scalability. Also in 2021, it partnered with Truecaller to launch verified business caller ID solutions. Such innovation was recognized by top industry analysts and platforms.

2023 saw another strategic purchase when Tanla bought ValueFirst Group from Twilio at $42 million, enhancing its enterprise messaging strength and growing further within the SaaS market.
